    ECD Bride Sarah

    Name
Sarah chose a classic look for her big day! Like so many other 2020 brides, she had to adapt to the circumstances, but she still created a sweet and memorial day as she and her new husband made promises to one another and spent time with their friends and loved ones!

Where did you and your fiancé meet?
    BYU-Idaho

    How did he propose?
We painted the sunset together while eating Peach-Os! When we got to the last Peach-O, I insisted he take it because they’re his favorite candies — but he refused and *insisted* I eat it. By now I was a little suspicious, so I tentatively took a bite and the ring was in the Peach-O! I giggled and took it out, he got on one knee and popped the question, and after a little bit of a good freak out I said yes!

Describe your wedding in 4 words:
    Simple, Elegant, Modern, Intimate

Why did you choose to wear a modest wedding dress for your big day?
I chose a modest wedding dress because of the covenants I made in the temple!

What was your favorite part of the day?
Every part of the day was my favorite, but other than being sealed, I loved spending the day with my closest family and friends!

What did you splurge or save on?
Splurged on a dress, alterations, and venue! Saved on a veil — I got mine at Amazon for less than $20!

I had an amazing photographer. LeighAnn Cole from GA. She didn’t mind the frigid weather and got some fabulous pics!!!!!! My aunt, Gail Choate, from Oklahoma, and cousin, Amanda Hughes, were amazing with the flowers and decorating. Also Signature Smokehouse (Dewayne & Michelle Cottrell) for the wonderful meal they prepared for the reception!! There was lots of others that played a part into making it a wonderful day for me and I am so thankful for each and everyone that did!

    ECD Bride Hadley

Where did you and your fiancé meet?
    We met on Mutual!

    How did he propose?
I was on a trip with my family in St. George and he was in Salt Lake (or so I thought). That afternoon my family went to one of our favorite parks with a large pond. As we were walking around the pond, I noticed hearts leading down the path. My first thought was that someone was getting proposed to, but I had no idea it was me. I was certain that he was four hours away. I kept walking along the path and all of the sudden I saw him standing next to the pond with flowers and a small, red box. Best surprise ever!

Describe your wedding in 4 words:
    Beautiful, Elegant, Relaxed, Lovely

Why did you choose to wear a modest wedding dress for your big day?
I always knew I wanted a modest wedding dress that I could feel beautiful and confident in. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and we planned on getting married in the temple. I was grateful that I was able to find my dream dress that was beautiful and modest.

What was your favorite part of the day?
I loved our ceremony and dancing with my husband at the end of the reception.

What did you splurge or save on?
I splurged on the dress and venue. We saved by doing some of our own décor at the reception.

Additional comments or advice for other brides:
    Advice:
Soak up and enjoy every minute of your big day! Take some time just to talk with your husband, family, and close friends who are there to support you! The day goes by so fast and it’s nice to take a couple of minutes to relax, breathe and savor the moment.

    Additional Comments:
Planning a wedding during the Covid pandemic came with many challenges. I went to several dress shops and they told me that due to shipments being stopped I would have to buy a dress off of the rack. I had a particular style in mind and felt devastated that I couldn’t find what I wanted. I came across Elizabeth Cooper’s website and immediately fell in love with several of their dresses. When I called, they said they had multiple sizes in stock of each of their dresses that I would be able to choose from. I tried on the Holly dress and immediately knew it was the one. I also loved that it came with a lace up back so that I didn’t need any alterations done to it. In addition, I got the most beautiful veil from Elizabeth Cooper. I am so grateful that I was able to have the dress of my dreams, despite having to make a lot of other changes to our big day.

    ECD Bride Kalen

Where did you and your fiancé meet?
He served his mission in my parents' ward! We have been friends for almost 7 years.

    How did he propose?
We were on our way to the Salt Flats to take pictures with my sister, and we decided we were tired of waiting for the ring. We stopped at the mall and picked up a $5 fake ring and he proposed on the Salt Flats! My sister was there with her nice camera so we got some good pictures. When the real ring came, he took me on a hike right before sunset and re-proposed overlooking a river and the setting sun. :)

Why did you choose to wear a modest wedding dress for your big day?
I wanted something that would be beautiful and timeless while still covering my temple garments. I have worn garments for years, and the covenants they represent are a big part of who I am. I was not willing to sacrifice that representation for my wedding dress - especially when we got married in the temple!

What was your favorite part of the day?
Getting to be the only people in the entire temple. Or getting to see so many loved ones at our reception!

What did you splurge or save on?
We splurged on photography - we wanted to make sure our photos were excellent, and they were! We saved on most everything else and did a lot of work to make sure everything was still beautiful and special while sticking to our budget.

Pro-Tip: Wedding Gown shopping, keep it small

Shopping for a wedding gown should be an enjoyable experience.  However, sometimes the  enthusiasm about sharing the experience with friends and family can lead to a lot of unnecessary frustration!  Here are a couple of tips to help you make sure your shopping experience is pleasant and productive.

Tip #1:   Don’t over do it!  Trying on wedding dresses, especially modest wedding dresses with sleeves, can take a little extra time to get in and out of which can be exhausting, and trying on too many gowns can bring an already-stressed-out bride and her mother to tears!  Do some careful research beforehand, find out what appeals to you and pick 2 or 3 bridal shops that carry wedding gowns in the styles that you love. By carefully researching the options in advance, you will leave yourself more time to focus on the details of each modest wedding dress that you try on.  Taking this approach will help you avoid rushing through the experience as quickly as you can, in order to try on as many wedding dresses as possible, before you need to rush to your next bridal appointment.  You want shopping for your wedding gown to be special, don’t burn yourself out.

Tip #2: Do not bring a lot of people to your bridal appointment.
Keep it small, too many opinions can create confusion and frustration.  Taking 6 sisters shopping may be fun in some circumstances, but it rarely leads to a positive experience when shopping for a wedding gown. Instead of bringing every woman that you love to your appointments, involve several of them in other aspects of the wedding planning.  If  your grandmother or your future mother-in-law are avid gardeners or decorators, take them with you when you go to the florist to select bridal flowers, and take a friend or two when you are searching for bridesmaid dresses. Ask your sisters to research wedding caters or wedding photography options for you. Take advantage of the many ways that your friends and loved ones can be involved in the planning experience.  If your 6 sisters absolutely must be involved in the wedding gown shopping experience, include them via Facetime or Zoom, which will make it easier to set some boundaries.

When choosing who to invite to your bridal appointments, pick someone supportive who understands and appreciates your style. Someone you trust to help you make a good decision. If you intend to purchase a modest wedding gown, bring someone who appreciates modesty.    Wedding gowns come in many varieties, so if you love ballgowns, but the roommate you bring to your bridal appointment is strong willed and loves sheath gowns, you could end up feeling pressured to purchase a wedding dress that does not make you happy.
When all is said and done, it is you that will remember your wedding day for the rest of your life, no one (including your husband!) will remember the details of your wedding gown as well as you will. Choose what you love, and don’t worry if your cousin thinks it is too simple or grandpa thinks it is too garish!
